Feel like a real ignoramus, but I'm having trouble with myphone and would like some help. I seem to be stuck in the status bar area of my phone and can't get to the menus so that I can turn off "do not disturb" and "blutooth", etc., Is there something I have to do in order to fix this? I have no clue what it could be, so help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much and sorry to be so stupid...

Just try this. Hold down the power button on the top until you hear it tell you if you want to turn it off. Slide of double tap as instructed and let it turn off.
Wait a bit, and press and hold the power button for a few seconds and wait for it to power up. You'll hear when it is, because voice will come on.
The stupid questions, are the ones not asked. Smile.
Many times things can be corrected like on your computer by just restarting.

forereel, thanks so much. That did the trick. Still don't know so much about this stupid phone. Maybe I'll get the hang of the 5 by the time the iPhone 15 comes out.

Also, remember, for 90 days Apple will hold your hand. You can go to any store and they'll sit with you and show you anything you want for as long as you want. So you have more sources.

You can also call if you have another phone and they'll help you.
